This book does something that no other book, research project, organisation, network or forum does – it addresses the issue of the practical and pragmatic relationship between human consciousness, the crisis of human sustainability and climate change. It is a starting point, both for debate, but more particularly for action, and it is far from an end in itself.

Firstly, this book identifies the direct relationship between the way our consciousness functions ... and perhaps malfunctions at times … and the fact that human cultures repeatedly create unsustainable ways of living - which result from unsustainable ways of thinking, which in turn result from unsustainable ways of perceiving our relationship to the world around us, other people and cultures and life on earth in general. An amazing example of which is climate change. All this directly reflects lessons for us about how our consciousness works, and can help indicate ways in which it might be aided in perceiving, comprehending and thinking more effectively - to the potentially vast benefit of humanity.

Secondly, the book proposes that there may be great parallels between inadvertent human induced climate change and inadvertent human induced consciousness change – both complex natural systems into which human additions have taken them out of a state of dynamic equilibrium.

All this has hugely practical implications – particularly for our practical responses to climate change and other increasingly pressing sustainability issues … such as soil erosion and fertility depletion, water availability, toxification of seas, soils and food chains, desertification, deforestation and species loss … and so the list goes on.

What realm have these issues arisen from in humanity? And perhaps more importantly what realm of humanity is the major source of realistic solutions?

The book concludes with a number of realistic proposals for practical action on these issues.
